For me, exercising in the evenings works. I managed to stave off food binges yesterday evening because I did water aerobics for 75 minutes, then sat in steam room just for fun, and came home to a crockpot meal. YEAH!! I had a high protein snack before exercising to get me through, then ate dinner later (around 7:30). I know some people say you shouldn’t eat after 7 p.m., but I think what it really boils down to is whether your calories spent exceed your calorie intake, so I am ignoring the don’t eat after 7 p.m. rule.
I have to admit that the Lime Cilantro Chicken was not as good as I hoped it would be. It is not a toss-away recipe yet, but definitely needs some tweaking. I will not add two limes or or use fresh salsa next time. Had way too much liquid. Also, I will add more spices. For the remainder of the chicken, I am going to add fried (in 1 tbsp of olive oil) onions and peppers. I think that will help a lot.
As for exercise, I’ve decided timing is the key for me. I would prefer to exercise in the mornings and get it done. I have heard that for better sleep you need to finish exercise 4 hours before going to bed, but to avoid evening food binges, I have chosen to exercise in the evenings. It works for me. I believe we all have to decide what works best for us through trial and error, and not just from what we read about general health.
I’m the same way about eating at night; it’s always the hardest to stay away from food around those times.
Yes, it is. What tips do you have to avoid eating during the evenings? Sometimes sheer willpower is not enough for me. I have to distract myself–as you can see from the post, my latest strategy is exercise.
I agree that the timing of meals is not nearly as important as total calories consumed. Whatever timing helps you reduce your caloric intake, that’s what you should use!
